Obituary of Connie S. Butler

Connie Mae (Shatraw) Butler, of Lake Street, Port Kent passed away on Sunday, August 1st, 2021 at the UVM Health Network – CVPH , Plattsburgh, after a long illness. Connie was born in Maine, NY on September 24, 1940, the daughter of Walt and Oleta (Smith) Shatraw. Connie spent her youth in Parishville, NY, and graduated from Parishville-Hopkinton Central School in 1959. She had many fond memories of being a cheerleader, time spent with friends, and her treasured first vehicle, a Volkswagon Beetle. In the early 1960’s she was introduced to her future husband, David. They married May 4, 1963, and raised their family together in his hometown of Keeseville, prior to his death in 1985. Connie worked throughout her life in various offices in the area, in particular as a legal secretary for over twenty years in Keeseville. She also enjoyed many social ventures, including bowling leagues, horseshoe leagues, traveling, and could usually be found in the company of good friends and cold beers (with salt, of course). Above all, Connie treasured time spent with her family and friends, always adding to the fun with her unique brand of humor and insight. She will be dearly missed. Left to cherish Connie’s memory are her children and their spouses: Eric and Marianne Butler (Puyallup, WA), Beth Butler and Noah Loncosky (Liverpool, NY), Tim and Valerie Butler (Port Kent, NY). She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Megan and Makayla Butler (Auburn, WA), Michael and Matthew Loncosky (Liverpool, NY), and Erin, David, and Lily Butler (Port Kent, NY). She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Joan Shatraw (Watertown, NY), as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her friends are too numerous to list, the sign of a life well-lived. In addition to her parents, Connie was predeceased by her beloved husband, David E. Butler, and her older brother, Ronnie Shatraw. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 11:00am at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, NY, 12972. A reception will follow at the Keeseville Elks Lodge #2072, 1 Elks Lane, Keeseville, NY, 12944. Burial will be private, immediate family only, in the Port Douglas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Connie S. Butler may be made to the Keeseville Free Library, 1721 Front Street, Keeseville, NY 12944.
