Obituary of Gilbert G. Liberty

Gilbert G. “Gil” Liberty, Sr., 82, of Front Street, Keeseville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Plattsburgh. He was born in Beekmantown on June 26, 1938, the son of Arthur and Delia (Agoney) Liberty. Gil served in the U.S. Army for 6 years as part of the Infantry Division. He worked for Pepsi in a variety of positions for over 30 years and after retiring from there he continued to keep busy with working at the Aubuchon’s Hardware in Elizabethtown for a couple years, and then started driving for ACAP and the North Star Underground Railroad Museum. He also served as a Councilman for the Town of Chesterfield for many years. Gil enjoyed golfing and bowling and was an avid NY Yankees fan. He loved to play Bingo with his sisters. Gil received the “Woodman Award” in 2010 by VFPASNY based on his meritorious service to the fire police community for over 35 years and his service to other community organizations, such as AmVets, Keeseville 2072 Elks Lodge and the Senior Nutrition Program. Gil was a member of the Keeseville Fire Department, Keeseville 2072 Elks Lodge, and the American Legion Post 504 in AuSable Forks for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Keeseville Knights of Columbus 4689, the Keeseville VFW Post 1505, and the Keeseville Seniors Club. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Gilbert and Kristi Liberty of Latham, NY and Larry and Norma Jensen of Mchenry, IL; a grandchild, Aaliyah Liberty; siblings, Eleanor (Ernie) Blaise, Jeannette Giddings (Brian Mcneilly) and Nancy Fullerton (Gene Sherman); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence; sister, Theresa; and brothers-in-law, Pete Giddings, Edward Giddings, and Milton Gross. Gil along with his children would like to recognize Yvonne Bezio for the time and special care she provided over the years. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, May 24, 2021 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Funeral Service will follow in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. William G. Reamer officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dannemora.
