Obituary of Eugene H. Agoney

Eugene H. Agoney, 89, formerly of Route 22, Peru, died Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh. He was born August 18, 1931 at his family's home on Route 22 in Peru. He was the son of Wilfred and Edith (LaRose) Agoney. Eugene retired from Georgia Pacific, January of 1994, following 20 years of dedicated service. Earlier jobs were in construction, building the Ticonderoga Paper Mill, and a stretch of Interstate 87. He also worked for Masons Lumber Yard for some time. Eugene was a lifetime member of the Peru Rod & Gun Club, and enjoyed camping there for many years. He also was a member of the Keeseville, Peru and AuSable Forks Senior Citizens Clubs for many years. He was a husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed family barbecues and picnics at Port Douglas, and various family gatherings. He looked forward to the annual Retirees Picnic provided by Georgia Pacific. He was married to Loretta (McKee) Agoney for 56 years, until her death in January of 2012. Eugene was also predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Edith; four brothers, Wilfred J. Agoney, Nelson Agoney, Thomas Agoney and Jesse Agoney; daughter-in-law, Darlee (Maze) Agoney; and two grandchildren, Christopher A. Agoney and Andrea L. (Agoney) Hemingway. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Helen and Raymond Agoney of Peru, Billy and Paula Agoney of Keeseville, Jimmy and Tracey Agoney of Keeseville, David and Amy Agoney of Plattsburgh, and Penny and Tim Burl of Peru; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Friday, May 21, 2021 from 3 to 5 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A prayer service will follow at 5 PM in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the Peasleeville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country.
