Obituary of Joseph L. St. Denis

Joseph L. St. Denis, 91, formerly of Tanglewood Drive, Peru, died Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. He was born in Plattsburgh, October 17, 1929, the son of Joseph A. and Bertha (Calkins) St. Denis. Joe grew up in Plattsburgh. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 and served his country proudly until receiving his honorable discharge in 1954. He married the former Lillian E. Perry, July 22, 1951 in St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. She predeceased him, February 1, 2018. Joe was an electrician. He joined Union Local 781, December 18, 1956 and continued until retiring January 1, 1992. He was a member of the Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, and vacationing in Florida and Myrtle Beach. Left to cherish the memory of Joe are, his children, Donna and husband, Charles Forgette, Lorri Gordon-Fountain and husband, Bob Fountain, and Mike St. Denis and wife, Valerie; three granddaughters, (children of Donna and Charles), Lindsay and her husband, Matt Francis (their children, Hailey, Hannah and Kaelyn Francis), Melinda and her husband, Mark Fewster (Melinda's son, Logan Lavalley and Melinda and Mark's daughter, MacKenzie), and Michelle and her husband, Kyle LeClair; nephew, Barton St. Denis; and many other nieces and nephews on the Perry side. Joe was predeceased by his parents; two sons-in-law, (Lorri's husbands) Wayne Cook and Jerald Gordon; grandson, Daniel Forgette; and brother, Donald St. Denis and his wife, Veronica. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. Committal prayers and burial will be held in the spring in St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh. Donations in memory of Joe St. Denis may be made to the charity of one's choice.
