Obituary of Donald A. McCormick

Donald A. "Don" McCormick, 90, of Keeseville and more recently of Lake Worth Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington. He was born on Nov. 23, 1929, the son of James and Irene (Pine) McCormick, grew up in Harkness and AuSable Chasm, and graduated from Keeseville High School. He was an excellent athlete and enjoyed hunting, golf, and many good times with friends and family. Don served in the 11th Airborne and later fought with the 7th Infantry during the Korean War. He was involved in two major actions on Pork Chop Hill, receiving two purple hearts. While recovering at home he met his wife, Mary Kelly of Warrensburg, N.Y., and they married on June 25th, 1955. Don went to Plattsburgh State Teaching College. He taught school and coached in Hogansburgh, N.Y., Keeseville High School, and AuSable Valley Central School where he retired. He also enjoyed working many years at AuSable Chasm as a Boatman. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Mary (Kelly) McCormick; his five children, Patrick McCormick (Candy), Timothy McCormick (Frances deceased), Donna McCormick, Jan McCormick (Andy Black), and Tom McCormick (Gabriela); and eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; also, his brother, James McCormick and sister, Jean Cavallero. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Richard McCormick and his two sisters, Connie Hamilton and Judy LeClair. There will be no public services at this time.
