Paul Baker

Obituary of Paul M. Baker

Paul (Maynard) Baker, 96, of Lyon Mountain, NY, passed away peacefully at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born December 1, 1923 in Mooers, NY, the son of Walter and Anna (Sorrell) Baker. Maynard was an avid outdoorsman with a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed his hunting camp and shot his last deer at the ripe old age of 90! He retired from Republic Steel and was the oldest living miner in Lyon Mountain. Maynard, affectionately known as "Papa", loved his family and especially adored his grandchildren and the many children he and grandma babysat for over the years. They spoiled each and every one of them as only the best grandparents could do. To all that knew him, as he would always say, "Thanks a million". He is survived by his daughter, Diane Donivan his primary caregiver, and his sisters; Bernice Trottier, Marion (Wilfred) Burdo, Vivian (Rowland) Fournier, and Theresa (Richard) Fitzgerald; Grandchildren, Tina (Tim) Howard, Kelly Timmons, Tracy Burnham, Todd Nelson, Lisa Stocum and Jody Trudeau; as well as several nieces and nephews, great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. In addition to his parents, Maynard was predeceased by Alice, his loving wife of 55 years; his son, Bill Baker (his favorite hunting partner); and siblings, Lawrence, Andy, Beatrice, Rayaw and Adrian. Honoring his wishes there will be no public calling hours or services. Donations in memory of Paul (Maynard) Baker can be made to Hospice of the North Country. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
