Obituary of Martin Joseph Heywood

Martin Joseph Heywood, 89, of Route 374, Ellenburg Depot, died Thursday, May 14, 2020 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Redford, June 12, 1930, the son of Theodore and Genevieve (Sidney) Heywood. He grew up in Saranac and graduated Sallaz Accademy in Redford. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served proudly until his honorable discharge in 1953. He worked on the Plattsburgh Air Force Base as a civilian for 33 years prior to retiring in the 1980s. Martin was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed square dancing, fishing, gardening, and farming. Left to cherish the memory of Martin are, his wife of 14 years, Lorraine Mary (Pecor) Heywood, whom he married November 11, 2005 in Redford; five children, Timothy (Angelessia) Heywood, John (Tammy) Heywood, Philip (Donna) Heywood, Patrick (Bobbie) Heywood, and Ann Heywood; step-children, Robert McKee, Donna Kriss, Karlinda King (Brian Jordan), Gary King, Gabberial (Thomas "TJ") Payne, and Wallace (Tami) King; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Cletus Heywood and his companion Pat Wolf; one sister-in-law, Genevieve Heywood; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by infant son, Peter Heywood; one granddaughter, Alyson DellaPiana; one brother, Roderick Heywood; sister-in-law, Audrey Heywood; and one step-son, Richard McKee. Due to the pandemic services will be private; however his funeral service may be viewed live by visiting the Hamilton Funeral Home Facebook page on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at 1 PM. The funeral will be available for viewing anytime after that time as well. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
