Obituary of Lois Ann Thompson

Lois Ann (Fitzgerald) Thompson, 87, of Willsboro, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, following her courageous fight with pulmonary hypertension. Lois was born on October 21, 1932 in Yonkers, New York. She was the daughter of William and Irene (Schultz) Fitzgerald. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School, she was employed for several years at the Franklin Savings Bank in New York City as an executive secretary and statistical typist. She was a city girl through and through. Lois' greatest desire in life was to have a large family. She met her husband Bill in Yonkers and was married at Sacred Heart Church on November 13, 1954. They raised seven children and were married for 62 years. In 1977, Lois and Bill moved the family to their summer home on Willsboro Point. Lois was a parishioner of St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church, where she taught catechism for many years. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Joan of Arc Court for 30 years. Lois was an avid reader, took pleasure in crafts and crossword puzzles, and looked forward to her trips to the Atlantic City and Saratoga casinos. As someone who always kept up with current events, she never shied away from a political debate. Most of all, Lois loved large family gatherings, and visiting with friends and family on the front porch, taking in the breathtaking view of Lake Champlain. Lois is survived by her seven children: Lois Ann Sayward (George), William H. Thompson Jr., Thomas Thompson (Alithe), Mary Jane Seibert (Mark), John J. Thompson, Judith Guilbo (William), and Ellen Thompson. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Jennifer Leibeck (James), Nicole Beckwith (Dale), Peter Sayward (Jolene), William H. Thompson III (Vanessa), Bridget Holloway (Jonathan), Erica Cotraccia, Tyler Thompson, Ali Thompson, Andrea Guilbo, Katie Guilbo and Christina Guilbo. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren: Stephen Leibeck, Ethan Leibeck, Carson Leibeck, Ava Leibeck, Garrett Beckwith, Quinton Beckwith, Lucas Sayward, Kevin Sayward, Anna Thompson, Lily Thompson and Gianna Cotraccia. Lois was predeceased by her husband Bill on July 15, 2016 and her infant son John J. Thompson on February 13, 1964. She was also predeceased by her siblings William Fitzgerald, Margaret McLoughlin, Irene Mylnar, John Fitzgerald, Eleanor Keane and Robert Fitzgerald. In consideration of COVID-19, calling hours and funeral service will be private and at the convenience of the family, However, the funeral service will be live-streamed for those relatives and friends unable to attend, to witness. A Christian Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a date and time to be announced. The family would like to thank the staff of hospice for their kindness, care and support over the past few months.
