Obituary of Joseph Herbert Barnaby

Joseph Herbert "Joe" Barnaby, 86, of Willsboro, entered eternal life on Monday, March 23, 2020. He was born in Whallonsburg, NY on January 27, 1934, the son of Joseph E. and Eva (Edwards) Barnaby. Joe graduated from Willsboro Central School in 1952. He was a member of the ARMY Reserves from 1952 to 1961. Joe married Donna Lee Lamb on July 31, 1955, celebrating 46 wonderful years of marriage before her passing. Some of his earlier jobs were at the planing mill at Champlain Forest Industry and working with Lyle Mason on furnace maintenance. Joe spent 34 years at NYCO Mining Company and retired as the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor. Joseph was a devout Catholic as a member, Eucharistic Minister, and greeter at St. Joseph's Church of Essex, St. Philip's Church of Willsboro, and St. Peter's Church of Plattsburgh. He was a Knights of Columbus Honorary Life member of Council 255 and Honorary Life member of the 4th Degree Assembly 706 in Plattsburgh. In addition to being a former trustee, he had deep involvement in the Color Corp and the Council Bingo Team. One of his fondest memories was attending the North Country Honor Flight send-offs. He is survived by their five children: Lynda (David Leibowitz) Barnaby, Joel (Cynthia) Barnaby, Cheryl (Eldred) Hutchins, Lisa (Timothy) Brennan, and Kevin (Angela) Barnaby. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Juli (Pete), Travis (Megan), Jacki (Joe), Aaron (Erin), Erika (Gregg), Amanda, Meredith (Dan), Andrew, Maxwell (Julia) and Parker; and great-grandchildren: Kellan, Mia, Hudson, Stella, Harper, Ben, and baby girl (Aaron) Hutchins arriving in July. Joe is survived by his brother, Ronald (Ethel) Barnaby; sister, Blanche Hathaway; sisters-in-law, Joan (Don) Miller and Deb Donegan; brother-in-law, Francis (Linda) Lamb. He is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. He is survived by his companion, Jeanne Bechard; her four children, Greg (Joann Gerrish) Bechard, Kim (Jerry Vanmoerkerque) Grosskopf, Randy Bechard, and Robin (Stephanie) Bechard; grandchildren, Dann (Danielle), Adam (Heather), Sarita, Ashley (Travis), John, William, Brandron (Alexis), Eric (Katelin), and Andrew (Mackenzie); and great grandchildren, Kasey, Saralynn, Damien, Hailey, Cory, Keith, Keegan, and Kendra. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, John and Rick; sisters, Veronica, Winola, and Gladys; sisters-in-law, Linda and Nancy; brothers-in-law, George, Cliff and Richard; and granddaughter, Heather Jo Leibowitz. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a date and time to be announced, at St. Joseph’s Church in Essex. Burial was held in the Calvary Cemetery in Willsboro.
