Donald Cogswell, Jr.

Obituary of Donald W. Cogswell, Jr.

Donald W. “Bubber” Cogswell, 62, of the Peasleeville Road, Schuyler Falls, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly on Monday, October 14, 2019, in his home.

He was born in Elizabethtown on August 24, 1957, to Donald and Marion (Sprague) Cogswell. He was affectionately given the nickname of Bubber as a small child by his dad, and the nickname stuck for anyone lucky enough to know and love him.

Don’s career as a self-taught master mechanic brought him from Ticonderoga to Vermont, Dannemora, Plattsburgh and Saranac Lake (High Peaks) Ford where he achieved multiple awards of excellence. In 2012 he began the most rewarding step in his career at CV-TEC in Mineville, NY. Here he succeeded in imparting his wisdom in the art of auto mechanics to his students and co-workers, who grew to love, admire and respect him. He made many close friends there who will never forget their “Mr. Cogswell”. Don enjoyed gardening, raising his bees, hunting with his son Greg and all his southern tier crew. He was an avid fisherman, which gave him many hours of well-deserved fun and relaxation, on a boat or the frozen water. Don enjoyed fishing Lake Champlain, Lake Colby and all the surrounding ponds of our Adirondacks. He most enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren, who were his world. Don was an exceptionally gifted, clever, and creative man, with an artistic ability to create. He used those gifts to problem solve and invent tools and gadgets to use in everyday life. He was a go-to man who would help anyone and was always there with sound advice or a helping hand.

Don was predeceased by his parents and his oldest sister Carolyn (Cogswell) LaCombe, step-sister Donna Mae Cogswell, and nephew Jason W. Grant who he missed deeply.

Left to cherish Don’s memories are his two children, Gregory J. Cogswell and Jessica M. Cogswell. Greg’s family includes his wife Erin and two sons, Dylan and Avett. Jessica’s family includes her fiancé Justin McCuin and two children, Riley and Evangeline; and Greg and Jessica’s mother Barbara G. (Dickerson) Cogswell. Don is also survived by his three siblings; William Cogswell and his wife Carol Cogswell, Patricia (Cogswell) Grant and her partner Jim Genier, and Edna (Cogswell) Ferguson of Phoenix, AZ, as well as Don’s brother-in-law Edward LaCombe and a multitude of nieces and nephews. “Bubber” also left his great love of music to carry on his memory and we will forever think of him when the CD’s get strewn across the floor and the garage walls start to shake.
