Obituary of Eugene J. Sharrow
Eugene J. "Gene" Sharrow, 86, of Birchwood Drive, Peru, died Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Ellenburg, July 1, 1933, the son of Leo and Maria (Sharette) Sharrow. Gene grew up in Ellenburg and later Mineville before his family moved to Plattsburgh. He graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1953.
He began active duty with the United States Army in early 1955 and served proudly for two years until receiving an honorable discharge. On July 16, 1955, he married the former Dorothy D. Trost in St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh.
Gene graduated from Plattsburgh State University with a Master's Degree in education. He taught Biology and also served as Science Department Head at Peru Central School. His career in education spanned nearly 35 years, prior to retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Plattsburgh Lodge #2390.
Gene was dynamic both in the classroom and out. His positivity and high energy was infectious. He was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed skiing, golf, hunting, and fishing.
Left to cherish the memory of Gene are, his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy Sharrow; one son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Patricia Sharrow of South Hero, Vermont; two grandchildren, Kevin Sharrow and his wife Jessica, and Adam Sharrow and companion Elyssia Sego; one great-grandson, Logan Sharrow; two sisters, Shirley (John) Lyons of Glenville, and Rose Nobile of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one brother, Donald Sharrow; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Theresa and Ronald Ashley, and Barbara and Leo Ewanos.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 11 AM at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with Rev. Alan D. Shnob, parish priest, celebrating. Committal prayers, military honors, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Gene's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
