Obituary of Gary F. Whisher

Gary F. Whisher, 69, of Palmer Street, AuSable Forks, died Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Plattsburgh, December 16, 1949, son of the late Russell, Sr. and Laverna (Wright) Whisher. Gary grew up in AuSable Forks and graduated from AuSable Forks High School in 1969. He served his country proudly with the United States Navy from December of 1969 until his honorable discharge, September of 1973. He married the former Linda L. Dockum, April 20, 1974 in Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks.

Gary worked at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base in the central heating plant from 1973 until the base closed in 1995. He remained on Base working for PARC until 2006. In 2007 he began working with ANCO Heating Services in AuSable Forks and worked until August 14th when his illness prohibited him to continue.

Gary was the youth baseball/softball coordinator for the towns of Jay/Black Brook for more than 30 years. His work as coordinator was a deep passion. He was always at the field helping to ensure everyone was treated fairly and were enjoying the athletic programs. Gary was an avid NY Yankees fan.

Left to cherish the memory of Gary are, his loving wife of 45 years, Linda Whisher of AuSable Forks; one son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Amanda (Hart) Whisher of AuSable Forks; his beloved grandchildren, Jaycee and Alex Whisher; siblings, Kathy (Gary) Frenia of Peasleeville, Karen (Jim) Richards of Citrus Springs, Florida; Debbie (Bob "Dinger") Durgan of Peru; Sue (Ron) Rosio of Citrus Spring, Florida; Melissa Whisher of AuSable Forks; and Chris Whisher of AuSable Forks; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Russell Whisher, Jr.; an infant sister, Lynn Whisher; and his parents-in-law, John and Evelyn Dockum.

At Gary's request there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 11 AM at Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks with Rev. Kris C. Lauzon, parish priest, celebrating. In Gary's memory his family request anyone attending the Mass who have NY Yankee attire, please wear it. Committal prayers, military honors, and burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in AuSable Forks. A reception will follow at the AuSable Forks American Legion.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
