Obituary of Rufus P. LaBounty
Rufus P. LaBounty, 87, of Grove Street, Keeseville died Thursday, June 6, 2019 at his residence.
He was born in AuSable Chasm, March 2, 1932, the son of Philip and Julia (Spooner) LaBounty. Rufus grew up in AuSable Chasm until his family moved into Keeseville when he was a teenager.
He worked for Prescott's in Keeseville for a few years and then began working at AuSable Chasm, a career that spanned more than 50 years.
Rufus was a dedicated member of the Keeseville Fire Dept. for 20 years.
He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Left to cherish the memory of Rufus are, his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Margaret E. (Hart) LaBounty, who he married, June 28, 1952 in St. John's Church in Keeseville; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Tanley Hahn; grandchildren, Tara (Garth) Hogan, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Cross; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Nicholas Nelson, and Ryan "Roy" and Lila Cross; brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Mary LaBounty; special niece, Judy Blaise; special friend, Linda Clarke; and several other nieces, and nephews.
In additon to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey LaBounty; brother, Sherman (Beverly) LaBounty; and sisters, Helen (Ken) Blaise, Marjorie (Bob) Hamms, and Pat Loya.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 10, 2019 at 11 AM at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Rev. Kris C. Lauzon, parish priest, celebrating. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Keeseville Fire Dept. or St. John's Church in Keeseville.
