Obituary of Florence Phillips

Florence E. Phillips, 94, of Vista Drive, Willsboro, died Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Glens Falls, June 8, 1924, the daughter of William and Ethel (Griffin) Howard. She graduated from Imperial High School in 1939.

Florence married the love of her life, Merton B. Phillips, June 15, 1940 at the Christ Church in Glens Falls. He passed August 28, 2006, following 66 years of marriage. The Phillips children were blessed with parents who worked hard to give their family the best there was to offer, especially "Love".

Florence was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She took great pride caring for her family and her home. She was the hub of the wheel that kept the family together. Her faith helped her survive the loss of her three children and provided the comfort and knowledge that the Lord would support her family through the ups and downs of life's ways.

She was a member of the Eastern Star Abenaque Chapter 745 for over 50 years and the Peru Community Church choir when they first moved to Peru.

One of Florence's deep passions and loves was caring for the Holland, Quesnell, Loughan children.

Left to cherish the memory of Florence are, her loving children, John W. and Blessy Phillips of Peru, Cathy L. Phillips of Willsboro, and James G. and Becky Phillips of Cambridge, Vermont; son-in-law, Guy Rotz of Plattsburgh, 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many surrogate grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Walter M. Phillips, and Donald B. and Leonora Phillips; and daughter, Elizabeth E. Rotz.

A funeral service will be held Friday, September 28, 2018 at 4 pm at St. Augustine's Church in Peru. Committal prayers and burial will follow in God's Acre Cemetery in Peru.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Elmore SPCA.

Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
