Obituary of Donald H. LaPierre

Donald H. LaPierre, 90, of Hemmingford Road in Mooers, NY, died Monday, September 3, 2018, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, Plattsburgh, NY.

He was born in Nashua, N.H. on November 5, 1927, the son of Hubert and Lena (Jubert) LaPierre and moved to Sciota, NY in 1928.

Donald was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather/great grandfather, uncle and friend. He graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh both with a Bachelors and Master's Degree in Education. During Donald's lifetime, he held many different occupations including those serving our community and country including; serving in the Army Air Corp during WWII, Deputy Sherriff, Fire Chief for the Mooers Fire Department, and Accountant for Surprenant Motors. Donald, for 30 years, worked for the NCCS School District as a math and science teacher starting in 1953 and later as Principal for Mooers, Champlain and Rouses Point Elementary Schools. Finishing out his career, Donald served as an Immigration Inspector on the Canadian border for the US INS. Supplementing his time and talents, he was a prominent tax accountant in the North Country. Donald was advisor to the school ski club, class advisor plus chaperoned the high school class trips to NYC/DC for 10+ years. Donald introduced the Lake Clear outdoor education program to 6th graders, was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and Elks Club, and a devoted member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church parish.

Left to cherish the memory of Donald and to celebrate his life are his loving children and spouses/significant others; Dennis & Madeline LaPierre of Saratoga Springs, NY, Donna & James St. Hilaire of Fairfax, VA, Donald S. & Joan LaPierre of Mooers Forks, NY, Darryl & Cindy LaPierre of Linneus, ME, Doreen & Michael Coty of Altona, NY and Deanna LaPierre & William Bull of La Mesa, CA, and daughter-in-law, Carol LaPierre (Daniel) of Troy, NY; grandchildren and spouses; Christopher LaPierre, Beth & David Wasniski, Jeremiah & Lara LaPierre, Nicholas LaPierre, Heather St. Hilaire, Carlinda & Liam Mahoney, Erica & Thom Tyler, Ellen & Adam Summerer, Cameron & Connor Coty; and 5 great grandchildren; and his sister, Isabelle Matott.

In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his wife, Cecile L. (Rabideau) LaPierre; child, Daniel LaPierre; sister, Shirley Mooso; and brothers-in-law, Allen Mooso and Henry Matott.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, from 4 to 6 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at 10:30 AM at St. Ann's Church, Mooers Forks, with the Rev. Adrian Gallagher, celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, in Mooers, NY.

Donations in memory of Donald H. LaPierre may be made to the Capital campaign for St. Ann's Church or Hospice of the North Country.
