Obituary of Dennis Stone

Dennis John "Jack" Stone, 63, of State Route 3, Morrisonville, died Monday, August 27, 2018 at Care One LTACH at Hackensack University Medical Center in Westwood, NJ.

He was born in Queens, New York, February 5, 1955, the son of Arthur Herman and Janet (Stevens) Stone, and stepmother, Pat Stone.

Jack was well known and a true inspiration and mentor to all he came in contact with throughout his life. Jack truly was a "Jack" of all trades. He completed many masonry jobs as a teenager in the local area building foundations, fire places, etc., and assisted with the well-known restaurant Butcher Block and Post 309 VFW in Peru. Jack was also a very talented singer, guitar and fiddle player, performing in his very own One Man Band, and was a band member of the Sunset Playboys. Jack was well known for his family operated business, Stone's Custom Slaughtering USDA facility, located in Schuyler Falls, NY as a Butcher and Auctioneer. Jack raced stock car #88 at Airborne Speedway during the summer, in the early 80's, and raced snowmobiles during the winter. Jacks true passion was being a Butcher after his accident in 1983 at Airborne Speedway leaving him a quadriplegic from the neck down. He was bound and determined to keep, keeping on. With the love and support of his family and friends he was able to achieve his dreams, by owning and operating Stone's Smokehouse located in Morrisonville, along with the privately owned label Zack's Venison Snacks. While doing all this he was also able to become a member of the MFPA (Mouth and Foot Painting Association) of Switzerland in 1996. He created masterpieces with his mouth of many mountains, rivers and valleys.

Jack will be missed dearly by many, but he also knows that he left his mark and was very proud of his accomplishments, and can only hope that the last 35 years he has been paralyzed that everyone remembers there is always someone worse off than you, and to take what the good Lord gives you and make it work like he did.

Left to cherish the memory of Jack are his loving children, Heather Stone and boyfriend Chris of Morrisonville, Hilary (Stone) Bushey and husband Richard of Beekmantown. Grandchildren, Anna-Rae Burrell, Hope (Tony) Giroux, Michelle (Adam) Dupell, Stephanie Bushey, Maranda and Zachary Bushey. Great grandchildren, Izzy and Lilly Giroux, Haley and Flynn Dupell. Brother and sisters, Nancy (Lawrence) Mitchell, Sally (Gilbert) Garrant, Art (Daisy) Stone, Molly Stone, Larry (Krista) Stone, Peggy Rivers, Larry (Kathy) Brown, Norean (Ray) Durocher, Charlene Lapham (Bill Thompson), and Lynn (Bruce) St.Pierre, as well as several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Step Brothers, Sisters, Neices, and Nephews.

In addition to his mother, Jack was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou (Fournier) Stone; brothers, Edward Brown, Jr., Richard Stone, and Arnold Stone, Sr.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday September 3, 2018, from 2 to 4 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 PM with the Rev. Jon Farmer presiding. A Celebration of Jack's life, with a reception will follow at Post 309 VFW in Peru.

Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
