Obituary of Edward Cragle

Edward L. Cragle, 84, of Paine Street, Peru, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Lemon, Pennsylvania, May 17, 1934, the son of Fred and Ida Mae (Reider) Cragle. Edward married the former Morna Palmer, March 18, 1956 in Reber.

Ed joined the Air Force in September of 1952 and proudly served for over 26 years, retiring in September of 1978. Ed was one of the first Airmen to arrive at PAFB in July of 1955 and was also a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. Following retirement from military service Ed worked at the Base Exchange for 15 years, and then for the NYS State Police as a civilian employee until he was 81.

He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother and friend.

He loved nothing more than hunting and fishing with his sons. He also loved to bowl, and play softball and baseball. He coached his children's sports. Ed successfully coached a winning little league team to the Arizona State Little League Championship in 1977. He was also an excellent skeet and trap shooter, hitting a perfect 100 clay targets most of the time.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Morna; daughter, Lorna and husband George Otty of Troy; sons, Larry and his wife Lecole Cragle of Peru and Eric and his wife Nicole Cragle of Beekmantown; grandchildren, Erin Cragle and her partner Scott-Michael Kellar, Kevin Otty, Cole, Madison, Katelyn and Allyson Cragle; great-grandaughter, Chloe Kellar; sisters, Dorothy Harvey and Clara Sills of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Ralph and Palmer Cragle, and his sisters, Mildred Spencer and Arline Solonick.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
