Obituary of Roger E. Poland

Roger E. Poland, 86, of Route 9, Keeseville, died peacefully, Saturday, July 14, 2018 in the Intensive Care Unit of UVM Health Network, CVPH, with his loving family by his side. Roger's passing followed a brief and unexpected illness.

He was born in Keeseville, May 5, 1932, the son of Frederick and Lena (Blaise) Poland. Roger was a well known and well respected, lifelong resident of Keeseville. As a young man he attended school in Keeseville. He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps with his brother, Raymond, and together they served during the Korean Conflict, honorably and proudly, until their honorable discharge in 1954.

Roger married the love of his life, Eulee Jean Williams, June 6, 1952 in St. John's Church in Keeseville. She predeceased him, January 30, 1992.

Roger wore many hats throughout his 86 years, including, husband, father, God father, brother, son, uncle, Democrat, tax collector, car salesman, Justice Of The Peace, Essex County Supervisor, Legislator, Town Of Chesterfield Councilman, bowler, golfer, laundry mat owner, and especially a true and loyal friend.

Roger and his brother Raymond established Poland's Used Cars in the early 70s. The partnership he shared with his brother flourished and was very successful until their retirement.

He was a member of the Keeseville Knights Of Columbus, the Keeseville Elks Lodge #2072, and the Keeseville VFW Post 1505.

Roger's deep ambition and drive to succeed brought him a very successful and rewarding life.

Left to cherish the memory of Roger are, his four children, Lola and Roman Lopez, Cecelia "Teal" and Lonnie Lautenschuetz, Randy Poland, and Karen Poland; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jane and Nyles McNeirney and Mary Hathaway; five granddaughters, Anita Cole, Laura Kennedy, Tessa Proulx, and Kari and Kendra Lautenschuetz; six great-grandchildren, Jalyn, Isaiah, Delany, Lena, Jaxon, Otis; God daughter, Vesta; special friends, Vicky and Gary Trombley; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Peggy Cross, Raymond Poland, Robert Poland, and Roy Poland.

Relatives and friend may call Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 4 to 6 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 11 AM in St. John's Church in Keeseville with Rev. Kris C. Lauzon, parish priest, celebrating. Committal prayers, military honors, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
