Obituary of Elsie Waterman

Elsie Mae Waterman, 91, of Holden Avenue, Peru, NY died Sunday morning, July 8, 2018 at the University Of Vermont Medical Center, Burlington after a traumatic brain injury.

She was born in Copenhagen, NY, September 29, 1926, the daughter of Burt and Lila (Neidle) Chambers

Elsie graduated from Lowville High School in 1943 and then from the Watertown School of Commerce where she became a certified Senior Stenographer.

She moved to Peru, NY in 1958 and worked as a stenographer for the School District from 1959 through 1988.

She and her husband wintered in Punta Gorda, FL for 20 years. While there, she was involved in numerous activities, such as, developing and directing performances of several unique programs at the Civic Center, teaching quilting and sewing, and co-teaching exercise with her husband.

In Peru she was active in the Peru Community Church where she taught Sunday School for 11 years and participated in Bible Studies. She was a founding member of Friends of the Library and was known in the area for her paintings and cake decorating.

Left to cherish the memory of Elsie is her husband of 71 years, C. Duane Waterman; daughters, Diane Waite of Glenville, NY, and Julie (Curtis) Ellis of St. Louis, MO; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 10 AM, at the Peru Community Church, with Rev. Peggi Eller presiding. Burial will follow in God's Acre Cemetery, Peru.

Donations in memory of Elsie Mae Waterman may be made to the Peru Community Church or The North Country Low Vision Association.
