Obituary of Robert Santor

Robert Glenn Santor, 82, of the Goodspeed Road, Plattsburgh, died Monday, June 18, 2018 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Plattsburgh, October 25, 1935, the son of Leeward and Janet (Dow) Santor. Robert grew up in Plattsburgh and graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1954. He proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960. Robert married Genevieve (Jenny) V. Barcomb on August 24, 1958 in Schuyler Falls. She predeceased him on May 20, 1992. He later married Dora L. Martel, fall 1992.

Robert worked at various construction and trucking jobs before finding his home at the United States Postal Service as a mail handler. He retired from the USPS in 1992. After retirement, he worked as a bus driver for Peru Central School. Throughout Robert's work history, he also owned and operated a third generation of Santor's Greenhouses.

He was a member of the Peru Knights of Columbus and Peru Bingo. As a tribute to his late wife and daughter, the Magic Pumpkin Patch was created. This annual event filled the hearts of many, many adults and children alike in the North Country.

Robert was an avid fisherman, hunter, outdoorsman, and master gardener (vegetables and flowers). Robert also enjoyed his daily happy hour on the swing with Karen, reminding the neighbor, that they JUST sat down and just opened their first one.

Left to cherish the memory of Robert are, his wife, Dora Santor of Plattsburgh; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and John Donoghue of Plattsburgh; grandson, Shayne Donoghue; siblings, Elinor Santor and Marilyn (Marshal) Henry. Dora's daughters, Pamela (Dennis) Carroll, Wanda (Rusty) Knobel, and Patricia (Robert) Breyette. Step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Along with several close friends near and far.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by a beloved daughter, Janet Marie Shanley and Aunt Geneva who raised him since he was three.

Calling hours will be held Friday, June 22, 2018 from 11 to 1 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 PM at St. Augustine Church with Rev. Alan D. Shnob, parish priest, celebrating. Committal prayers, military honors and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
