Obituary of Charles Hackel, Sr.

Charles C. Hackel, Sr., 88, of Truman Avenue in Plattsburgh died Sunday, June 10, 2018 at the University Hospital in Newark, NJ.

 

He was born at home, in Queens, NY on April 2, 1930, the son of Charles and Louise (Niederberger) Hackel.  Charles served in the Army during the Korean War, being stationed in Germany.  He was happily married to Helen (Fox) Hackel on August 21, 1954 until her death in 2009.  They resided in Sparta, NJ from 1963 to 1989 while working in the technology field for many years in New York City.  Prior to retirement, he built their home in Peru, New York and happily retired there in 1989.

 

Charles had a passion for woodworking, which led to his building his tug boat to tour on Lake Champlain and enjoyed building many other wooden creations for family and friends to enjoy.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Carpenter and her husband David; daughter-in-law, Linda Pearson-Hackel; sister-in-law and husband, Bunny & Lou Kedves; sister-in-law, Nancy Long; his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

 

In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Fox) Hackel; sons, Danny C. Hackel and Charles C. Hackel, Jr.; and his sister, Alice Hackel McBride.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 2 to 3 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Funeral Service will be held in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel at 3 PM with the Rev. Philip T. Allen officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Main St. Peru.
