Helen Spear

Obituary of Helen Spear

Helen F. Spear, 105, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh.

She was born March 2, 1913 in Ellenburg, to Carrie and Albert McDonald, and happily grew up in a large family with her sisters and brothers. She was married to Frederick Spear on February 20, 1932 at Notre Dame Church in Malone.

She was a loving and dedicated mother to her beloved six children, and it was her passion for cooking and strong work ethic that led her to pursuing a successful career as a head cook at Beekmantown Nursing Home and later Champlain Valley Hospital. In Helen's later years, her giving personality led her to helping the elderly in their homes, which was very rewarding for her.

Helen was happiest surrounded by family and friends, and she especially enjoyed her many grandchildren. She was a very giving person and was truly loved and adored by all who knew her.

Helen is survived by her loving sons and daughter, William (Pearl) Spear, Carolyn (Lloyd) Drollette, and James (Linda) Spear; two daughters-in-law, Mary Spear, and Diane Spear; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald (Cecil) McDonald, Maynard McDonald, and Lois McDonald; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, and over 50 grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; sons, Frederick Spear Jr. and Donald Spear; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Theresa Spear; son, Everett (Paul) Spear; several siblings and their spouses; and grandsons.

The family would like to thank the third floor staff at Meadowbrook Healthcare for their generosity and the devoted care given to Helen during her time at your facility.
