Obituary of Valeda Bashaw

Valeda Clare Bashaw, 93, passed away in her home Wednesday, April 25, 2018, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Lake Placid, N.Y., Aug. 31, 1924, to Ervin and Julia (Doner) White.

She grew up in the Lake Placid/Peru areas. Valeda married Joseph Arthur Bashaw on Oct. 1, 1946, and they made their home in Peru. In 2007, she moved to Virginia with her son Gary and wife Nancy, where she spent the remainder of her life. Valeda was passionately devoted to her religion and her family. Often during the weekends, you would find her with a great-grandson in her lap reading a book or singing a favorite song.

She loved to bake, read, crochet and go to yard sales.

Left to cherish the memories of Valeda are her two sons, Brett and companion Dorothy Williams of Homer, AK., Gary and Nancy of Bumpass, Va.; five grandchildren, Eric and Michelle Bashaw of Mission Viejo, Calif., Drew and Tracy Bashaw of Lake Placid, N.Y., Jason and Juanita Bashaw of Bumpass, Va., Nathan Bashaw of Clifton, Va., and Sarah and Christopher Maltby of Alexandria, Va.; ten great-grandchildren, Dylan, Adrianne, Dane, Ariel, Savannah, Sean, Logan, Levi, Lucas and Landon; two nephews, Maurice White of Westport, N.Y., and Danny and Sherry White of Peru, N.Y.; three nieces, Susan and James Geddes of Plattsburgh, N.Y., Gail Ball of Citrus Springs, Fla., and Jane Wells of Maine; and two cousins, Florence Powers and Clara Bruce of Peru, N.Y.

A private family service will be held in Peru.
