Obituary of Gary Finney

Gary Boyd Finney, 80, of Clinton Street, Keeseville, died unexpectedly, Sunday, April 29, 2018, at his home with his loving wife by his side.

He was born in Plattsburgh, April 25, 1938, the son of William and Dorothy (Boyd) Finney. Gary graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1956 and later attended Ithaca College. Following his time at Ithaca he returned to the North Country to work with the former family business, W.W. Finney and Sons. More currently he owned and operated Finney Sports in Plattsburgh and was a local musician and entertainer for the majority of his life.

Gary wore many hats throughout the years including car salesman, Mayor of Keeseville, coach at AuSable Valley, Willsboro, and Chazy, auctioneer, commissioner of little league in Keeseville, and finally teaching square dancing in local schools which he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved his family dearly.

Left to cherish the memory of Gary are, his loving wife, Gerry; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Patty, Tom and Lori, and Andy and Melissa; grandchildren, Andrew, Trevor, Rachel, Alisha, Jaden, and Jess; great-grandson, Bentley; and many extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Dai; and in-laws, Wilfred and Edith Lessard.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 3 to 7 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 4, 2018 at 11 AM at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with Rev. Peggi J. Eller, officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Peru Community Church, the Keeseville Rescue Squad or the charity of one's choice.
