Obituary of John Kennedy

John E. Kennedy, 90, of Peru, NY passed away peacefully on April 13, 2018 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, with his loving family by his side.

He was born December 17, 1927 in Lake Placid, NY, the son of Edgar and Margaret (Howard) Kennedy.

John was part of a large family with 5 sisters and 2 brothers. On July 29, 1950, John and Maude Wright were married enjoying nearly 67 years together.

John retired from the New York State Department of Corrections in 1983. During this time, he was a partner in LaVarnway & Kennedy Construction. Following his retirement, he continued to own and operate Peru Auto Exchange. He was a hard worker, enjoyed raising white faced herefords and spending time at the family camp on Fern Lake.

He was predeceased by his wife Maude (2017); siblings, Muriel Grady, Doris LaDuke, Mary Ellen Burk and Nancy Kepner.

John is survived by his sons, John H. Kennedy of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; and Bruce Kennedy (Joanne) of Peru; four grandchildren, Carrie Montefusco (Robert), Kristi Bouyea (Toby), Jenny Van Winkle (Brian), and Casey Kennedy (Michelle); four great-grandchildren, Marisa Montefusco, Addison Montefusco, Brook Van Winkle and Maggie Van Winkle. He is also survived by siblings, Kay Coolidge, Eugene Kennedy and Richard Kennedy; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, April 16 at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2 p.m. in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Peggi J. Eller, officiating. Burial will be in the Peru Cemetery. A reception for all will be held at the home of Casey and Michelle, 27 Military Turnpike, immediately following the burial.

Memorial donations may be made to the Peru Fire Department or the charity of one's choice.
