Betty Lou Arthur Peru - Betty Lou Arthur, 74, of the Fuller Road, Peru, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was born in Plattsburgh, March 26, 1934. She graduated from Peru Central School in 1953 and in 1954 graduated from Loretta Business School. Betty Lou worked for Vincent S. Jerry in Plattsburgh for several years, NYSEG in Plattsburgh for 6 years, and lastly served as manager at the Apple Valley Senior Housing in Peru for more than 21 years. Betty Lou was a very loving and caring lady. In even the most difficult of times she remained positive and had the ability to lift the spirits of those around her with smile and her charm. In addition to her love of people she had a great love of music. She sang in the Peru Community Church Choir for 64 years plus, the Ecumenical Choir, Oratorio Society, and on request at many weddings and funerals. She participated in several musical productions, loved to dance with her husband Ralph, enjoyed crewel embroidery, family gatherings, and spending time with family and friends. Betty Lou also found the time to co-chair the Ladies Guild of the Peru Community Church, participate on the Welcoming Membership Committee, served on the Official Board as secretary for many years, helped with the Interfaith Hospitality of local Churches, taught Sunday School, vacation Bible School Helper, and was a town of Peru Election Poll Worker. Survivors include her beloved husband and best friend of more than 51 years, Ralph K. Arthur, whom she married June 15, 1957 in the Peru Community Church; five sisters-in-law, Lois and husband Milton Wrisley of Florida, Hilda and husband George Curtis of Peru, Linda Arthur of Peru, Joan and husband Carl Lange of Peru, and Thelma Lyon of Keeseville; two brothers-in-law, Charles Arthur of Peru, and Hubert LaBounty of Peru; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her mother and stepfather, Florence (Tyrell) and Raymond Waldron; very special cousin whom was more like a sister, Gloria (Earl) Sartwell; sisters-in-law, Cora LaBounty and Marion (Wrisley) Arthur; and brothers-in-law, Edwin Arthur and Willis Arthur. Calling hours will be held Sunday, August 24, 2008 from 11:30 to 12:30 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A memorial service will follow at 1 pm in the Peru Community Church with Rev. Dr. Robert E. Svenson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Harkness Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty Lou's memory may be made to the Peru Community Church or the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center in Plattsburgh.
