Robert Bromley Woodward (Woody, Bob), 79, passed away on March 11, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Albany, NY where he had been a long-term patient due to medical issues he incurred during 17 years of active service in the U.S. Navy. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War serving off the coast of Viet Nam in the late 1960’s. Bob was born on August 28, 1943 in Plattsburgh, NY the son of the late Robert W. Woodward and Barbara (Bromley) Woodward. He attended Peru Central School before enlisting in the Navy on his 17th birthday. He was medically discharged under honorable conditions as a BT 2nd Class in 1976. Bob is a past Commander of the Peru Memorial VFW Post 309. Though he traveled the world while in the Navy, Bob’s heart was always in his hometown of Peru where he enjoyed his siblings and many close friendships, rolling logs on the river in the summer and speed skating in the winter. Bob loved Ford trucks, following NASCAR (especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. & Sr.), rooting for the New York Yankees and Oakland Raiders, collecting model cars, reading fiction and historical books, watching western movies, and Saturday nights at Airbourne Park Speedway. Bob is survived by his former wife, Mary Lou Woodward, his son, Robert B. Woodward II of Portsmouth, NH and his daughter Cassity Sawyer and her husband, Freeman, of West Chazy, NY, four grandchildren, Hunter and Chase Sawyer, Alexandra (Lexi) Woodward and Emmah Herne. He is also survived by his sister, Cheryl Breen Randall and husband, Craig, of Peru, NY, sister-in-law, Sally Woodward, and his brothers, Frank L. Woodward and wife, Kathy, of Beekmantown, NY, Barnard Woodward and wife, Sue, of Murrieta, CA and Todd Woodward of Morrisonville, NY. 11 nieces and nephews, nine grand-nieces and nephews along with many cousins also survive him. Bob was pre-deceased by his parents, his beloved siblings, Beverley Sprague, Bonnie Watson and Scott Woodward, and brother-in-law, Raymond Watson. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 4 to 7 PM at Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. Interment will be in the spring in the family plot at Hillcrest Cemetery in Parishville, NY. “Fair winds and following seas, sailor.” Donations in memory of Robert B.
