Beth Howard Defayette, 69, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away February 8th, 2023 in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. Beth was born in Plattsburgh, NY to Robert and Mary (Murphy) Howard on July 28, 1953. She graduated from St. Johns Academy in 1971 and BOCES Nursing Program as a LPN in 1973. After 14 years of working as a LPN in an OBGYN office and then in the private duty sector, Beth shifted her focus to being owner and operator of multiple successful businesses over the years in the North Country. She was awarded the Professional Career Woman of the Year, 1976, and she was the first elected woman to the Carpet Network advisory board in 2003. When Beth met the great love of her life, John, the pair quickly fell deeply in love. The soulmates were married on November 1, 1981 and they spent 42 incredible years together. Their enjoyment of the outdoors often filled time off from work with hiking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, downhill skiing and cycling. She and John enjoyed cycling together so much that they rode a tandem bicycle in the 2004 RAGBRAI across the state of Iowa. The adventures continued throughout the years with travel to Ireland, Barbados, the Bahamas, a western Mexico cruise, Russia, Finland, Belize and Mexico, to name a few. In retirement Beth and John traded the cold winters of the North Country for a steady and desirable climate in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. They quickly became part of the local community and found themselves friends with people from all over the world. Beth enjoyed daily walks, regular trips to the farmers market, dining on worldwide cuisine at small family restaurants and time on the terrazzo, with John while listening to music. Beth is survived by her loving husband, John DeFayette; their loving dogs, Pukka and Jobe, of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico; daughter, Kelly DeFayette of San Francisco, CA, daughter, Tricia (DeFayette) Feinberg; and grandchildren, Nathan and Madeline Feinberg of Fairfax, VA. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert Howard and Mary Howard; step-father, Horton Strong; and brothers, William and Gary Howard. There will be no public calling hours, in honor of Beth's final wishes. An amazing Celebration of Life will be held by the family in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico on March 26th, 2023. Local arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
