The life of a courageous, ethical and beloved man, Les Bradford, ended on February 4th, 2023. He was 89. He was the son of Elmer and Helen (Thomas) Bradford. Les spent his early years, through high school, in Middleboro, Massachusetts. Shortly after graduating, during the Korean War, he received his draft notice. He decided to join the US Air Force and trained to become a fighter pilot. However, when his training was over, the war was also over. He was therefore assigned as a transport pilot to Frankfurt, Germany. There he met his future wife, Helga Boehm. A new assignment to Dreux AFB in France followed, and then more training. He became a B-52 pilot and was stationed in North Carolina, in Maine, and finally in New York at Plattsburgh AFB. He devoted 20 years to the US Air Force and retired as a B-52 Standboard Pilot. He then attended BOCES in Plattsburgh. He became a draftsman and worked for a Canadian firm in Rouses Point. When he was offered a job at the Clinton County Real Property Office, he gladly accepted and eventually retired for the second time in 1995. Never an idle person, he immediately volunteered his services as a volunteer: teaching the AARP Driver Instruction Course, working for the Plattsburgh Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, joining a group of Peruvians who were building access ramps for people who needed them, and much, much more. His interests included auto racing, for which he received many awards, marathon running, drawing and caricaturing, writing stories, and interacting with friends and strangers. He is irreplaceable to his family: wife, Helga; daughters, Janelle (John) Michonski, and Sonia (Douglas) Hazelden; brother, John (Daphne) Bradford; grandchildren, Bradford Hunt (Richard), Emilee Hazelden; nieces, Denise and Allison; and nephew, William. Services will be private and at the convenience of his family. Burial will be held later in the year in God's Acre Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 643-9055.
