Ronald Doris Provost, 81, of Morrisonville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh. He is survived by his son, Lance and daughter-in-law, Tanya Griffin of Hillsborough, NC; daughter, Maureen and son-in-law, Jeffrey Connell of Morrisonville; siblings, Dora Seymour, Charles and wife Jean, Kenneth and wife Rita, and Mary Stone; additionally many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Through marriage he is survived by Dick and Colleen Conners, Robert and Beverly Conners, and sister-in-law, Polly Provost. He was predeceased by his loving wife Sheila, sister, Lucille, and brothers, Emile and Henry. Ron was born in Redford, March 12, 1941, the son of Henry and Lela (Corron) Provost. He graduated from Saranac Central School in 1959. In October of 1962 he married Sheila Conners at St. Patrick's Church in Peasleeville. He was employed at Hydro Molding and Imperial Wallcovering before beginning his career as a Correction Officer at Clinton Correctional Facility in 1976, retiring in 2007. "Big" Ron possessed a variety of interests. He was a devoted WIRY listener and Press-Republican reader, knew every episode of Seinfeld, and never ate a bad meal. He enjoyed stock car racing and somehow always made money on all his trips to the Akwesasne Casino or the Saratoga Harness Track. Summer nights playing for Brooke and Irwin Insurance in the Peru Softball League were very special to him. His repair skills were legendary; using guile, wit and colorful language he believed most anything could be fixed. He displayed a distinct style of telling of jokes and stories that often left him laughing harder than his audience. The last few years were difficult both physically and mentally. The family would like to thank the special people at the Samuel F. Vilas Home and Meadowbrook for their care and compassion. Many thanks to John and Theresa Guynup, Joseph and Jill Schofield, Dick and Colleen Conners, and Dennis and Sandi Connell for their support. He also shared a special bond with Erin and Danielle Guynup and Alex and Kate Schofield. The kindness shown by his neighbors Brad and Julie Evoy, Ann Jennett, Ron and Paula Begor and Brenda Joyal will never be forgotten. Big Ron never met a stranger and will truly be missed.
