Herman "Bruce" Furnia, 72, of Faith Road, Mooresville, NC and formerly of Peru, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Novant Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Peasleeville on November 5, 1949, the son of the late, Raymond and Eva (Archambault) Furnia. Bruce was a craftsman (printer) at Imperial Wallpaper Mill for 26 years, and later worked for several years for Sears, managing their automotive department. He served 6 years in the Army Reserves in Elizabethtown from 1968-1974. Bruce graduated from Peru Central School where he was an outstanding three sport athlete, his favorite being wrestling. He continued his athletic interests for many years playing slow pitch softball for Press Republican and Coca-Cola teams. His interests in motor sports and competition which lead to the creation of "The Cotton Candy Express" pull truck, and competing in local county fairs. Bruce was a huge NASCAR fan, visiting many Nascar tracks and showrooms, with Dale Earnhart as his hero. Bruce was also a sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing in his favorite spot on Chateaugay Lake. His great love was his Harley and was happiest taking long rides on his bike. Bruce is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (Craig) Strack of Plattsburgh; a son, Matthew (Lisa) Furnia of Peru; grandchildren, Donya Martell, Mikayla Winter, Ryan Furnia, and Cayden Strack; a sister, Shirley Frenia of Portsmith, VA; brothers, Kenneth (Peg) of Surprise, AZ, Joseph (Kathy) of Hudson, FL, and Steve (Lori) of Deland, FL; sister-in-law, Linda Furnia of Plattsburgh; his companion, Darlene Pickman; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Curtis; brother-in-law, Don Frenia; and nephew, Mark Frenia. At Bruce's request, there will be no public calling hours or service.
