Gary Lee Vaughn, 81, of the Jabez Allen Road, Peru, passed away December 1, 2021 while at The Orchards at Meadowbrook for a short period of time after enduring Amyloidosis and Congestive Heart Failure for several years at home. He was born April 21, 1940 in Plattsburgh to Allen and Florence (Herwerth Myers) Vaughn. Gary graduated from Peru Central School in 1957, started his working career while in school, at Pray's Beach Motel as a Maintenance and Dock/Boat Hand. Working at Pray's is where he met his future wife, Chris, while she was vacationing summers with family. He married Christie A. Bittner in Allentown, PA, his wife of 58 years on June 8, 1963. Gary worked as an Auto Mechanic at Gilroy's Service Station in Keeseville, NY. In 1964, he was employed at NYSEG retiring as Chief Field Tester, Meter Department in 1995 after 31 years of service. Gary enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his beloved pets, especially his predeceased fur baby, MXZ. Everyone considered him a hard worker who would do anything for anyone. Thru the years, he also enjoyed his daily trips to Peru Dunkin Donuts, snowmobiling, boating, mopeds, motorcycles, car shows, driving his mustangs, working on engines, and reading books about the local area, until his health declined in the past years. Gary will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Christie Vaughn; daughter, Sheryl Esposito and her companion, Matthew Desch of Morrisonville/Altona; son, Gary Lee Vaughn, Jr., and wife, Michelle Vaughn of Plattsburgh; grandchildren, Ethan and Amanda Vaughn of Plattsburgh, the lights of his life.; and step-sister, Carolyn Platt of Bradenton, FL Gary was predeceased by his parents; step-mother, Hazel Moore Vaughn; and three step-sisters. Relatives and friends may call Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 1 to 3 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 3 pm in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. As per family wishes, masks will be required in the funeral home. A reception will follow at the West Plattsburgh American Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elmore SPCA or Peru Fire Department.
