Donald Raymond Rabideau, Sr., of Route 22B, Morrisonville, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh on October 18, 1937, the son of Victor, Jr. and Dorothy (Laporte) Rabideau. In the early sixties, Donald worked as a plumber building SUNY Plattsburgh. The opportunity to go to work for the NYSDOT was offered to him and he switched gears to a more stable employment. He worked for the NYSDOT until the early seventies at which time he went to work for Clinton County overseeing operations as Superintendent of the County wide Landfill system. Donald retired from that position in 1993. In the early years he had a part time second job for the Town of Schuyler Falls Water Department, eventually taking over as Department Superintendent and retiring from there in the early 2000s. Donald was an active member of the Morrisonville Volunteer Fire Department for 66 years. Sadly, his first fire call was his families residence. He was a past Chief of several years, he also served as a Fire Commissioner for several years. In the early years he was a proud member of the Firematics race team, the Morrisonville Fireflies. His lifelong dream of owning a camp in the Adirondacks came to be in 1984, when he and his wife, Janet, purchased a piece of property with a trailer already set up. The following year, with the help of family and friends, they constructed a camp on the hilltop followed by a beautiful sun porch a few years later. Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a founding member and owner of "DD" hunting club. Left to cherish his memory are, his children, son, Gary (Lisa); daughter, Teri; son, Don Jr. (Lee); son, David, and son Rick (Shelly); 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Schram; sisters-in-law, Shirley Balko, Linda (Hal) Mero, and Beverly Farrell; brother-in-law, Herb Farrell Jr. (Mary); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Janet on 11/21/2021; two brothers who died at birth; and favorite son-in-law, Rick Blake. At Donald's request there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for him and his wife Janet on Friday, December 3, 2021, at 11 am at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Burial will take place following the mass, escorted by the Morrisonville Volunteer Fire Department, in the St. Alexander's Cemetery. Immediately following the burial, a reception will be held at the American Legion Post 1619.
