Carl Kokes, of Peru, died Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at home under the care of his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born May 29, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois to George and Louise (Pliml) Kokes. Carl graduated from the University of Illinois in 1962. In 1968 he moved with his family to Peru. He developed and taught the orchestra in the Plattsburgh City Schools, retiring in 1994; then taught at Clinton Community College for ten more years. Carl also founded and led the Adirondack Youth Orchestra for many years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sally; two sons, David (Kathy) Kokes and Guy Kokes; daughter, Melissa Moniz; and five grandchildren, Christopher Kokes, Veronica and Nicholas Moniz, and Emma and Ethan Kokes; his brother, Richard (Anita) Kokes; and sister, Jeanne Jaska. He was predeceased by his mother, Louise Kokes Thor; father, George Kokes; stepfather, George Thor; in-laws, Harold and Frances Chase; and infant sons, Kendall and Darryl. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, October 2, from Noon to 2 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow with Pastor, Noelle Eichenberger, officiating. Honoring family requests, Masks and Social Distancing will be required.
