David Raymond Justus, 79, of Soper Street, Morrisonville, died Saturday, July 24, 2021 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Plattsburgh, September 12, 1941, the son of David Charles and Mildred Lillian (Durgan) Justus. He grew up in Peasleeville and attended Peru High School. He served in the United States Army from 1959 through 1960. Dave was a lifelong truck driver for NORCO for several years and later for St. Johnsbury Trucking for many years prior to retiring in the mid 80s. Dave was most known throughout the North Country as Patches the clown. He worked tirelessly for many, many years under the title, Justus for the Children. For decades you would see "Patches" in local parades doing wheelies in his clown car. He was loved by many. Dave was a member of the American Legion Post 1619 in West Plattsburgh. He enjoyed visiting the casino, playing the lottery, watching NASCAR, camping, watching wildlife form his back porch, and spending time with his family. Left to cherish the memory of Dave are his wife of 30 years, Marion Justus, whom he married November 16, 1991 in Schuyler Falls; children, Melanie (Rodney) Draper of Morrisonville, and Penny (Scott) Bair of Plattsburgh, Amy Ashline of Peru, Lisa (Greg) Smith of Cadyville, Scott Ashline of Saranac; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife, Linda Justus. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 3 to 5 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A celebration of his life will immediately follow at the home of Melanie and Rodney Draper, 5 Wagon Wheel Way, Morrisonville, NY, 12962. All are invited.
