John Dancoes of Birchwood Drive, Peru died August 20, 2020 at CVPH in Plattsburgh. He was born in Hanover, New Hampshire on August 16, 1943, the son of Raymond and Evelyn (Methot) Dancoes. He graduated from Hartford High School and then went on to graduate from UVM in 1965 with a Bachelors in English. He was drafted into the US Army in August 1965. In December 1966 he graduated from the Defense Language Institute, receiving a diploma in Russian Language. He served until 1969 as a Russian Linguist. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. After the service John worked for Montgomery Ward where he eventually met his wife, Beverly (Maneeley) Dancoes. They started a family in Glens Falls, New York and moved to Peru, New York in 1987. He worked in retail until 2000. Following that career he worked as a job coach. He took great pride that he was able to assist others. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading (especially James Michener), doing crossword puzzles, sudoku, and taking photos. He particularly enjoyed doing ancestry research. He had traced his own family line and his wife's family line back many, many generations. He also did genealogical research for other people upon request. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beverly of Peru, NY; his daughter, Laura (Steve) Johnson of Plattsburgh, NY; his son, David (Amy) Dancoes of Portland, OR; his grandchildren, Colette and Jonah Dancoes of Portland, OR; his mother-in-law, Laura Maneeley of Plattsburgh, NY; his sister, Linda (Stewart) Bristol of Lyman, ME; his brother-in-law, Gary (Bob) Maneeley of Rochester, NY; and several nieces. He was predeceased by his parents; his father-in-law, Harold Maneeley; and his brother-in-law, James Maneeley. Plans for services are incomplete at this time. Donations in his memory may be made to the Northern New York American-Canadian Genealogical Society or the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
