Richard Allen "Beatle" Vassar, 75, of the Mace Chasm Road, Keeseville, died unexpectedly, Sunday, June 28, 2020 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh, November 20, 1944, the son of the late James R., Sr. and Ardell M. (Gumlaw) Vassar. He grew up in Keeseville and attended Keeseville High School. He proudly served with the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1969. Beatle worked for King Orchard in Keeseville for 30 years and then 18 years for Sullivan Orchard, prior to retiring in 2018. He was a Founding member of the Keeseville VFW Post 1505. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, and especially spending time with family. Left to cherish the memory of Beatle are, his loving wife of 49 years, the former Dawn Marie Baker, whom he married December 5, 1970 in the Harkness United Methodist Church; one son, Richard Vassar, II of Elizabethtown; siblings, Pauline "Blondie" and her husband, Fred Colegrove, Jr. of Keeseville, Clifford "Kipper" Vassar of Keeseville, Jerry Vassar of Elizabethtown, and George Vassar and his wife, Patricia of Phoenix, Az; and many, many, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Carie Ann Vassar, November 4, 1991; brother, James E. Vassar, Jr. and his companion, Dorothy Thompson; sister-in-law, Carol Vassar; mother-in-law, Mary Irene Baker; father-in-law, Carleton Baker; and step-mother-in-law, Chong Baker. Visitation will be private and at the convenience of the family. Committal prayers and military honors will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 1:15 pm in the Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville. All are welcome to attend in accordance with social distancing requirements. A life celebration reception will be held at a later date.
