James R. "Jim" Smith, Jr., 69, of Second Street, Port Kent, died Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the UVM Health Network in Plattsburgh, as a result of a logging accident. He was born in Plattsburgh, July 20, 1950, the son of the late James and Theresa (Irwin) Smith. He grew up in Clintonville and graduated from Keeseville High School in 1969. Following graduation he proudly served his country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1972. Jim was a logger his entire adult life. He had a deep love and passion for working in the woods. He also owned and operated a used car business in Keeseville for many years. He was a member of the Keeseville Elks Lodge #2072 and the Plattsburgh Moose Lodge #2390. Jim enjoyed visiting the casino and spending time with friends, especially his great friend, the late Tormey Favro. Left to cherish the memory of Jim are, his siblings, John Smith and wife Doris, and Roger Smith and wife Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Stephen Smith (1973), Michael Smith, Sr. (2014), and David Smith (2014); and sister, Sandra Blaise (2019). Due to COVID there will be no public calling hours. Committal prayers, military honors and burial will be held Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 11 am in the Clintonville Cemetery.
