Richard J. "Flaco" Florentine, Jr.

Richard J. Florentine, Jr., 55, of the Telegraph Road, Peru, died unexpectedly, Sunday, October 7, 2019, at his home.

He was born in Newark, New Jersey, October 15, 1963, the son of Richard J., Sr. and Joan E. (Mosby) Florentine. He grew up in New Jersey and as a teenager his parents moved to the North Country. He attended Peru Central School and CV-TECH where he studied criminal justice.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1981 until his honorable discharge in 1984. Richard began a career with the NYS Dept. of Corrections and served the majority of his time at Clinton Correctional Facility prior to retiring in 2017 following 30 years of dedicated service.

Richard was an avid bike rider, and also enjoyed working out. He was a loyal Mets and Red Skins fan. Richard was a caring, loving man. He welcomed his fiance's children in his life with open arms and treated them and their families like his own.

Left to cherish the memory of Richard are, his fiance, Carol Joy; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Michelle and Shawn Pounds, Tiffany Joy and her fiance, Justin Macey, Jennifer Joy, and Cynthia and Alex Hamel; four grandchildren, Cierra, Eithan, Madison, and Kali; siblings, Mark Florentine, Karen Redd, Linda Clay, and Joan Marie Florentine; and several niece and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by siblings, David and Deborah.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 2 to 4 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. Military honors will follow at the Hamilton Veterans Memorial.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the North Country Honor Flight.
