Jane A. Sample, 61, of the LaValley Road, Champlain, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, with her loving husband by her side.
She was born in Plattsburgh on June 30, 1958, the daughter of Arthur and June (Pelkey) Nephew. She grew up in Mooers and attended Northeastern Clinton Central School.
She married Leonard T. "Peck" Sample, April 14, 1977 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Together Peck, Jane and their children worked hard to establish the Rainbow Wedding and Banquet Hall to be a premier location in the North Country for events of all kinds.
Prior to co-owning and operating the banquet hall, Jane worked at Schonbek Lighting and Beekmantown Central School.
She was recognized as a Woman of Distinction in 2018 by Assemblyman D. Billy Jones and also by Woodmen Life-Chapter 462 with The Community Leadership Award in 2017.
Jane enjoyed playing cards and board games, spending time with her family and friends, travelling, especially to Las Vegas because she was very lucky.
Her positive energy and brilliant smile made her the perfect person to work with the public and guide people to plan their dream event.
Left to cherish the memory of Jane are her husband, Leonard "Peck" Sample of Champlain; children, Shawna (Steven) Garcia, Sara (Larry) Dupee, Laura L. Sample, Chad M. Sample, Trisch (Arthur) Ford, Brandeis (Kyle) Coshow, and Brannoin (Allyson) Sample; grandchildren, Lawrence IV, Bailey, Dalton, Keeley, Noah, Hunter, Alleigh, Owen, Nathan, Chase, Aubree, Hudson, Xavier, Isabella, and Skadi Mae; great grandchild, Ethan; siblings, Rodney Nephew, Barbara (John) Bourgeois, Claire (Hilbert) LaPier, Marlene Nephew, Dean Nephew Sr., Shelia (Lindsey) DeCoste, Reginald Nephew, Randall (Sue) Nephew, and Alan Nephew, brother and sister in-law, Ernest (Betty Jean) Sample; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her father and mother in-law, Lawrence Sr. and Myrtle Sample, brother and sister in-law, Lawrence Jr. and Theresa Sample, and a nephew, Jeffrey Sample.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, July 21, 2019, from 12 to 3 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 22, 2019, at 10:30 AM at Holy Angels Church in Altona. Committal prayers and burial will follow in Union Cemetery in Mooers Forks.
Following the burial service on Monday the 22nd, Jane's family would like to invite everyone to continue to celebrate her life in the Gold Room at the Rainbow Wedding and Banquet Hall.
Donations in her memory may be made to Jane's Fight Fund-in which she was instrumental in co-founding with her son, Brannoin. The Fund financially supports other families experiencing cancer.
