Raymond E. Lee, 79, of the Kent Falls Road in Morrisonville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at the UVM Health Network, CVPH, Plattsburgh, with his loving wife and family by his side.
He was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on December 14, 1939, the son of Earl and Allene (Mattingly) Lee.
Raymond entered the United States Navy in 1956 after graduating from high school. He very proudly served 22 years, from 1956 to 1978. Ray served during the Vietnam War as well as on 11 different tours as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. Upon his retirement from the Navy at the level of E5, Petty Officer Second Class, he was employed by Boeing Airlines in the State of Washington for ten years. He moved from Washington to the North Country in 1998 where he met his "Sweetheart" Bev and they happily, married 10 years ago on March 6, 2009. He was a member of American Legion Post 1619 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 125. Raymond enjoyed watching anything involving sports especially the NY Yankees, Seattle Seahawks and Nascar. He also, very much enjoyed telling stories of his Navy days, and those who listened quickly grew to love his stories and him as well.
Survivors include his wife and sweetheart, Beverly (Gonyea) Lee; a sister, Renee Gough and husband, Jim of Texas; brother in law, Donald Gonyea & wife, Susan of Daytona Beach Florida; sisters in law, Sandy Gonyea of Mooers, Linda Wood & companion, Mike Hendrie of Morrisonville, Theresa Mooney & husband, Wesley of Morrisonville; brother in law, Wayne Gonyea & wife, Bonnie of Morrisonville; along with many Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his brother in law, Gailand Wood; brother and sister in law, Gerald and Sally Gonyea; brother in law, Clarence Gonyea; and nephews, Wesley Mooney and Timothy Wood.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 8, 2019, from 10 to Noon at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Funeral Service will be held in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel at Noon, with the Rev. Scott Seymour, officiating. Military Honors will follow.
Donations in memory of Raymond Lee may be made to the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center.
