Harvey S. LeCuyer, 87, of Bens Lane, Keeseville, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Plattsburgh, November 11, 1931, the son of the late, Gilbert and Rena (Blaise) Spooner. He grew up in Keeseville and attended Keeseville High School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1950 and served in Korea during the War and receieved the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars, among other medals and awards. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
Following his discharge he met and married the former Marilyn Gordon and together had five children. He later met and married his second wife, Lillian, who brought two children to the relationship. Together, Harvey and Lillian had a son, Michael. Lillian predeceased him June 14, 2011.
During his working years he was a cabinet maker, printer operator, supervisor and an industrial training supervisor for the NYSDOC for many years until retiring in 1991. He was also an Army Reserve Guard, master locksmith, and was involved with local politics including dog enforcement officer and code enforcement officer for the Town of Chesterfield.
Harvey was active with the Catholic Community of Keeseville and took pride in his role as a Lay Minister. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1505 in Keeseville and the Keeseville Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish the memory of Harvey are, his children, Brian and Beverly LeCuyer of Plattsburgh, Susan LeCuyer of Plattsburgh, Sheri and Peter Nabozny of Hudson, Laurie Hanson of Keeseville, Kimberly and Edward Goslow of Plattsburgh, Keith Wolfe of Keeseville, and Michael and Anita LeCuyer of Keeseville; sister-in-law, Lorraine Spoor; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents and both spouses, he was predeceased by his son, Steven M.; and siblings, Carmelia (Dick) Strack, Donald Spooner, and Irene (Bob) Shumway.
Relatives and friends may call Monday, March 4, 2019 from 9 to 10 AM at St. John's Church in Keeseville. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM with Rev. Kris C. Lauzon, parish priest, celebrating. Military honors will follow the Mass in church. A spring burial Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 6, 2019 at 11 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church in Keeseville with committal prayers and burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery in Keeseville.
Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
