Norma Jane (Dickinson) McDougal, 82, of State Route 9N, Elizabethtown, passed Sunday, November 18, 2018 at her home under the loving care of her children and High Peaks Hospice of Essex County.
She was born in Elizabethtown, August 26, 1936, the daughter of Ralph S. and Loretta V. (Passino) Dickinson. She attended school in Elizabethtown and married Kalvin S. McDougal, also of Elizabethtown. Kalvin and Norma later divorced.
Norma retired from NYS Department of Transportation as a Highway Maintenance Laborer, a job she loved. She spent her retirement caring for her family, hunting, fishing, cooking and canning.
Left to cherish the memory of Norma are, her children, Deborah Smith of Lewis, Cliff McDougal of Elizabethtown, Travis McDougal Sr. (Kristina) of Saranac Lake, and Gerald Smith of Lewis; a dear friend, Daniel LaMere Sr. of Elizabethtown; four sisters-in-law, Dale K. Smith of Wilmington, Josie J. Perks of Lake Placid, Evelyn Dickinson of Rochester, and Esther Dickinson of Rochester; five grandchildren, Billie Jay Bledsaw (Maria), Travis McDougal Jr. (Courtney), Kristen McDougal, Julius Barreto (Alison), and Crystal Grady (Larry); ten great-grandchildren, Isaiah Jacob, Jayden, Molli, Rayna, Diamond, Laela, Jaxine, Juliet, Lucia, and Julius; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and former husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Donald and Raymond Dickinson; her loving son, Gordon Glenn McDougal; and a granddaughter, Ashley Marie Grady.
A celebration of Norma's life will be held in the summer of 2019. Date, time and location will be announced.
