Obituary of Henry Jarvis

Long time business owner, Henry F. "Hank" Jarvis, 87, of State Route 22B, Schuyler Falls, was granted his wish, by God, and taken to his heavenly home on December 28, 2017.

He was born April 11, 1930, the only son of Henry and Mary (Lesperance) Jarvis. Following graduation from Peru High School in 1948, he attended meat cutting school in Toledo, Ohio, and was employed by the Grand Union Company at several North Country stores.

Henry married Delores Shinafelt, September 30, 1950 and became the proud father of 3 children. In the early 1950's, he established Jarvis Auto Parts and Polaris Snowsled Sales in Schuyler Falls, which operated until the untimely accidental death of his son, David, December 22, 1975. Henry also owned several rental properties, a grocery store, and a spirits store in Schuyler Falls. After 25 years as a correction officer at Dannemora State Prison, he retired from the Department of Corrections.

Henry was a member of St. Augustine's Parish in Peru and the Peru Knights of Columbus Council 7273. For fun, from 1958-1960, he drove a white "Chevy" coupe, #77, at Airborne Park and many other North Country racetracks. He loved dirt track racing and was an avid NASCAR fan. Henry was a generous man who supported numerous charitable organizations.

Henry was a devoted husband and father. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Judy (Ritchie) Barden of Keuka Lake, and Kim (Joseph) Ivanenok of Peoria, AZ; sister, June Blaine of Peru; six grandchildren, Carrie (William) Howe, Christine (Thomas) Oliva, Stephanie Cardinale, Pamela (Ryan) Sheriff, Ryan (Lindsey) Barden, and Christian Ivanenok; nine great-grandchildren, Ethan, David, and Jacob Howe, Jackson and Samuel Oliva, Isabella and Giovanni Cardinale, and Makayla and Oliver Sheriff; companion, Janet Downs of Peru; sister-in-law, Jean Sussey of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, mother 1968 and father 1971, he was predeceased by his loving wife Delores 2012, son David 1975, sisters, Genevieve 1929, and Marilyn 1985; and brothers-in-law, Louis Blaine and Jerry Sussey.
