Obituary of Richard Rock

Richard H. "Dick" Rock, 87, formerly of Route 9 South, Keeseville, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Meadowbrook Health Center in Plattsburgh, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Keeseville on December 3, 1929, the son of Henry and Leah (Abare) Rock.

He wore many hats in his lifetime. Dick served honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, owned the Friendly Tavern, and he retired after 31 years of dedicated service at Clinton Correctional Facility.

After his retirement, he served as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service and was the Town Justice for the Town of Chesterfield.

He is a past Fire Chief, Town Assessor, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, past Exalted Ruler, State Vice President and DDGER of the NYS Elks Association.

He is survived by his brother, Ronnie Rock and wife Kay; his sister, Beverly Farrell; sister-in-law, Pauline Rock; his daughters and their spouses, Dianne and Mike Lynch, Debbie "Sam" and Dan Witherwax, Donna and Phil Pray, Holly and Henry Coolidge, Kelly and Jon Chew; one son, Michael and his wife Laureen Rock; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Peg; his parents; brothers, Herbie, Bill and Gary; and grandson, Scott Pray.

There will be no public calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 6th at St. John's Church in Keeseville. Committal prayers, military honors and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

A reception will follow at the Keeseville Elks Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Keeseville Rescue Squad and the Keeseville Elks Lodge Building Fund.
