Obituary of Ralph Santor

Ralph William Santor

Plattsburgh – Ralph W. Santor, 90, of the Irish Settlement Road, Plattsburgh passed into the arms of our Lord on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh with his son Butch and Cathy by his side.

He was born May 1, 1927, the son of Victor and Irene (Montville) Santor, one of seven children.

He graduated from Peru Central School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy as the country was at war. He served on the U.S.S. Arkab, a destroyer escort and traveled to Hawaii, Italy, Sicily and back through the Panama Canal in World War II. He and I are very proud of his service. He went to over 25 ship reunions in cities throughout the United States from New Orleans to Montreal and San Diego to Connecticut. Following his military service he returned home and worked for Truman Davis in Peru driving truck. After Davis' company closed he went to work for the Fort Edward Express Trucking Company where he drove tractor trailers for over 40 years, retiring as teamster at age 60. Ralph received a 3 million mile award from MACK Trucks, a letter of commendation from the American Trucking Association for 35 years of driving without a chargeable accident, and he was also sequestered as an expert witness in a court case as an expert driver by the B.C.I.

Ralph married the love of his life, Marilyn Alice St. Louis on July 16, 1949. They had two children, Butch Santor and Sandra Lynn. Ralph and Marilyn were married 63 years prior to her passing in 2012. The family enjoyed an island camp on Union Falls pond for 30 years living there from Memorial Day through Labor Day making thousands of memories we all will remember forever.

Ralph was an avid hunter and fisherman as are all Santors. He was the leader of the pack on hunting trips near and far. He enjoyed being outdoors and working hard. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 20 in Plattsburgh. He was also the President of a mixed bowling league the Monday night relics where he bowled with his wife, son and daughter-in-law.

Ralph was a gentle man with a big heart with a contagious smile and sparkling blue eyes with a hint of mischief. There is a sense of peace for the family as we know that Dad is now with Mom and Sandy. Ralph's undying spirit and memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish the memory of Ralph are, his son, Butch and wife Cathy Santor; grandchildren, Ashley Lynn Nicholls and Amber Marie Santor. Also Jason Santor of Charleston, SC and Amy Tisdale of Plattsburgh. Great grandsons, Beckett Moses Nicholls and Everett Waylon Nicholls of St. Albans, VT. His brothers, Gerald and Roland; and sister, Yvonne; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Marilyn, Ralph was predeceased by his daughter, Sandy; older sister, Alverta; and brothers, Leeward and Gordon.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 17, 2017, from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at 11 AM, at St. Augustine's Church in Peru, with the Rev. Alan D. Shnob, parish priest, celebrating.
