Donald F. "Don" Nelson

Donald F. "Don" Nelson, 72, of the Standish Road, Saranac, died Monday, November 13, 2017, at his home in his favorite chair.

He was born in AuSable Forks, April 23, 1945, the son of Raymond and Delphine (Lafountain) Nelson. Don grew up in AuSable Forks and attended Holy Name and AuSable Valley School.

Don worked for Diamond International and later Imperial Wallcoverings, both for many years. After Imperial closed he went back to school and obtained a welding certificate. He welded for many years at Integral Fabrication, prior to retiring.

He was a former member of the Beaver Lodge Hunting Club. Don was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and four-wheeling.

Left to cherish the memory of Don are, his wife of 30 years, Claudia "Sue" Nelson, whom he married July 4, 1987 in Saranac; four children and their spouses, Marcia and Dennis Wear, Terri and Harold "Howie" Gann, Melissa and Wayne Bridges, and Christopher and Kristen Nelson; step-son and his wife, Duane and Alicia Smart; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Nelson; granchildren, Benjamin, Jonathan, Stephanie, Jeremy, Joshua, Jessica, Michael (Tiffany) Shelby, Nicholas, Nathan, Abigail, Kyle, Eli, and Makayla; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews that he adored.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Robert Nelson; sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Ed Donnelly; great-granddaughter, Serenity Raymondo; parents-in-law, Ramond and Jeannette (Dupraw) Waldron; and two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Brian and Connie Waldron and Terry Waldron.

Calling hours will be held Friday, November 17, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Noon at the Church of the Assumption with Rev. John "Mickey" Demo, parish priest, celebrating. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Church of the Assumption.
