Bruce Sample, 76, of State Route 11, Mooers, died Monday, September 25, 2017 at the UVM Health Network, CVPH in Plattsburgh, with all his family at his side.
He was born in Mooers Forks, March 6, 1941, the son of David and Alma (Gadway) Sample. Bruce grew up in Cannon Corners and graduated from Mooers High School in 1959. He was the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at Northeastern Clinton Central School for 30 years and retired in 2000.
Bruce was a longtime and very active 50 year member of the Mooers Fire Dept. He was also a member of the Mooers K of C, Mooers Good Fellowship and he was Town Councilman of Mooers for over 20 years.
Bruce enjoyed his time in Florida at the Oaks with family and friends, NASCAR, the Giants, the Yankees and time with his grandchildren.
Left to cherish the memory of Bruce are his loving wife of 57 years, Scarlett Ann (King) Sample, whom he married August 6, 1960 at St. Joseph Church in Mooers; his children Wanda Sample, Allen and Kim Sample, Jim and Denise Sample, Lee and Trena Sample; grandchildren, Ryan and Justin, Kaleb and Kolby, Devyn and Adisyn; sister, Norma Rabideau; brothers; David "Junior", Alton and Sandy, George and Denise and Roger and Sally; brother-in-law, Gerald and Jane King; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by in-laws, Sharon Sample and Donald Rabideau.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. Members of the Mooers K of C will meet Wednesday evening at the funeral home for a 6:30 service. Firefighters will meet Wednesday evening at the funeral home for a 6:45 service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Church in Mooers. Committal prayers and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to Fitzpatrick's Cancer Center or the Mooers Fire Dept.
