She was born in Plattsburgh, March 9, 1931, the daughter of James, Sr. and Ethel (Defoe) Annis. She grew up in a household of five brothers and three sisters.

She was a graduate from a one room school house located on Lyons Road, Peru and attended Peru Central School. She belonged to the Lady of the Elks, Keeseville Lodge, Peru VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Keeseville.

Van or Mema, as she was fondly referred to, was an avid seamstress, a quiet artist, and a loving care taker. She especially cherished raising her children, Nila, Christopher, Christine, and Angela. She enjoyed being involved in her grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives, Brian, Holly, Brianna, Matthew, David, Kathryn, Steven, Levi, Samuel, Randy Lee, Gavin, and Cheyenne Grace. She took great joy in participating in her families many milestones.

Survivors include her children, Nila and Ken Lamoy, Karen McKeon Macey, Christine Macey and Ben Hailey, and Angela Girardi; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Van was fortunate to find a second love in her life, Tom Doner who she enjoyed spending time with, going dancing and attending social events. Her family rejoiced in the love and happiness that they shared with each other.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold C. Macey, 2001; and her son, Christopher H. Macey, 2010.
